This is what's going on in the kitchen right now! A large pot of bubbling broth with chicken pieces, carrots, onion, celery, parsley and other dried herbs.
Growing up chicken soup was a weekly meal. My mom would make the soup on Saturday night and then take out all of the meat and vegetables and serve that for dinner with some homemade tomato sauce!! Yum!
Then, we'd save the broth for Sunday lunch. When we'd get home from church we would heat the broth up and add some really, really long thin noodles to the broth called rezance, pronounced (rez - an - tze) remember to roll your tongue on the "r" :)
After we finished the soup my mom would bring out the main meal. Meat, mashed potatoes, salad and sides. Seriously, there was enough food to feed a small village.
So, since today turned out to be so dreary, what's better then chicken soup for dinner? Especially if you have kids that are complaining of sore throats!
I might have a yummy post for tomorrow. It all depends on how it turns out. That's all I'll say for now:)
