Look at what I found at the side of the road! A treasure silently waiting for the garbage truck to come and whisk it away to the land of the unwanted.
Seriously though, can you believe that someone would want to throw out such a gem? I had to double check that the owners really wanted to get rid of it so I rang their doorbell to ask. Yup, they were throwing it away. Perfect for me, but maybe not so much for the hubs! He had to find room for it in our van as it was already full with the three girls and other shopping purchases. No problem though, we left the girls on the curb to lighten the load and carried our new found treasure home! Hahah! just kidding, I'd never, ever do that. I promise you that!!
I have to apologize for the quality of this photo. I was so excited with the find so I took a quick shot of it in our crowded garage with bad lighting so I could text it to my sister. It's actually the only before photo that I took of the dresser! I completely forgot. It's good enough though, you won't be wanting to look at this photo again once you see what the finished product looks like!
My wonderful neighbour introduced me to Annie Sloan and her wonderful Chalk paint. Now this is not chalkboard paint but a wonderfully thick chalk like paint that is amazing to paint with. There is absolutely no need to do any sanding or priming of your furniture before painting with the Annie Sloan Chalk paint! I didn't believe it when my neighbour told me but allowed her to show me how it works and I was truly amazed! I think I found my new hobby. I already have my next project in mind!
The drawer fronts were painted in Greek Blue and then the drawers and whole dresser were painted over in the Old Ochre. Once everything was dry ( didn't take long) We were able to distress the drawers a bit to show the blue and then distress the rest of the dresser a bit to bring up the original brown. Once we finished distressing we applied the Annie Sloan's clear wax to the whole dresser and then Annie Sloan's dark wax to just the top to age it a bit more. I am VERY please with how it turned out!
