I've been doing it wrong the whole time.

I love cherry tomatoes. They're perfect to just plop into your mouth as a snack or you could cut them up to add to your salad. I would always cut them in half, one by one and that was that until I came across a youtube video on how to properly cut cherry tomatoes. I thought It was pretty interesting and will test it out next time I have cherry tomatoes lying around.

How do you cut your tomatoes?
Have yourself a wonderful day!

Windy Days and Palachinke!

Today was such a windy day. It actually feels like it's October outside not the middle of July! I'm really getting worried about how our winter will be this year if it's so cold now. This windy weather is really good for drying clothes out on the clothes line! I managed to dry four loads today which is awesome!:)

After making dinner I wanted to treat my family with some palachinke also known as Crepes. We like to eat ours with a sweet filling like strawberry jam or Nutella or sometimes even with a light sprinkle of sugar. It was a delicious way to end our dinner!

Painting with Chalk Board Paint!

I have been busy painting R and N's room today. It hasn't been painted in the four years that we've been in the house and it was in desperate need of a face lift.:)

A few years ago while visiting Ikea I picked up some of these cheap frames. I'm not sure what they're called but they're made out of pine.

I had some Chalk Board paint lying around in the house and I knew that I want to paint a chalk board section on one of their walls but since I've never painted with it before I thought I'd practice on something smaller.

I first pulled the glass/plastic out of the frame and gave it two coats of the chalk board paint. I then let it dry. There are easy instructions on the can for you to follow.

While the chalk board paint was drying the girls painted the picture frames. I only have N's chalk board picture frame in these photos. I think it turned out really cute.

Pork & Ramen Stir Fry

Okay, this was AMAZING!! Yum!! We couldn't stop eating it! You can find the recipe here.
I have never attempted making a meal that required Ramen noodles and bamboo shoots before but I'm so glad that I did. It was delicious and if you're going to be eating a stir fry with Ramen noodles you must eat it using chop sticks!:)

Iced Oatmeal Cookies

This morning I woke up with the start of a migraine and it took some time to get rid of it. I finally did with two extra strength gel Advil, coffee, a heating pad and a massage from R. When I finally felt better I bake a loaf of bread and these beauties. Ha, that probably helped too.

These, my friends, are Iced Oatmeal Cookies. They're delicious. I let mine bake for about 14 minutes and they turned out a bit crunchy, just then way I like them. My girls thought they were gingerbread because of the cinnamon and nutmeg in them and the icing just adds to the deliciousness!!

I haven't been baking too much this summer. It's been too busy with company and travelling and we've really missed having some yummy homemade treats around.

If you're interested in trying these out you can find the link here!

Well, off I go. I have a lot to do today... I hope you all have a blessed day!

Backyard Camping

The girls and I have never slept in a tent. Believe it or not I have never ever been camping in the 33 years of my life.. Sure, when I was in grade 8 I went to camp with my school but we slept in cabins on beds but I have never slept in a tent on the ground! Paul on the other hand would always camp when he was living in Europe. He would always have a tent in the trunk of his car, ready for whenever he might need to pull over while travelling.

Well, we knew that camping was something that we wanted to do as a family. A tradition that we wanted to start that will make many memories for our family. So, we finally bought a tent and sleeping bags for the girls and decided to start slow by pitching the tent in the backyard. Since we're going to sleep outside we might as well light a fire too and make it a real backyard camping night. So we started a fire in the fire pit and roasted some marshmallows.

Since Paul had to work early the next morning he decided to sleep indoors and get a proper nights rest so it was just the girls and I on this adventure!

The tent is a great size. It's suppose to sleep 8 but I don't see how unless you sleep like sardines and end up being glued to each other because it's so hot out. I think that it sleeps 5 comfortably. Paul and I on one side and the girls on the other.

Everything went really well until I was awoken in the middle of the night to rain. Now, I know that you can obviously camp in the rain but the night before we had a down pour and lots of thunder and I didn't want to be caught in that so I carried the girls inside along with all of our stuff! Not fun! The girls were really surprised to wake up in their beds! hahaha! I do think that they were kind of disappointed that they didn't get to wake up in the tent but I told them that at least they got a chance to fall asleep in the tent, and that we'll have plenty of opportunities to use the tent in the future!

The girls love roasting marshmallows. It is such a sticky treat but it's part of the campfire fun.
N likes to stick her marshmallow into the flames so it catches on fire and burns and then eats it! I don't get it and frankly don't care how she eats it. It's her marshmallow!

I'm trying to find some delicious easy meals that you can make over a camp fire. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know! There are a million recipes out there and I don't know where to start so that's why I'm asking for help! :)

I still have a lot of little things that I want to get organized before we head out and sleep in the great outdoors. I do not want to be unprepared so I'm searching Pinterest for ideas and suggestions!

Enjoy your day!

Saturday's Bike Ride

Our family really enjoys going on bike rides. Now that all the girls can ride two wheelers and can keep up, we really like to go biking. We like to try different trails and of course stop along the way to take some photos.

I'm actually surprised with the way the photos turned out. It was really dark along this trail because of all the trees and I was worried that even with the flash I wouldn't have enough light but I have to say that I was pretty please with the results!

This is the St. Jacobs trail and it's about 3 km one way. The girls have absolutely no problem riding it especially since the trail is dirt packed and straight. The only problem that we faced was since it was Saturday, there were a lot of people walking along the trail too and the trail is pretty narrow with a creek running along side it on one side and then on the other side there are areas where it drops off pretty steep. This made the girls nervous sometimes but they did great!

When we finished our bike ride one of my sisters met us there. She had come to pick up N for a sleepover. After they left we headed over to the little caboose for an ice cream treat!

I'm looking forward to our next biking adventure!

Enjoying a Sunny Day!

This is how most sunny days look like at our place. We're usually outside enjoying the gorgeous weather. The girls are usually playing with the chickens, on their playground or sometimes even weeding their little garden. I think that they did a pretty good job!

Have a wonderful day!

Gallery Wall

For those of you who have been over to our house you might or might not have noticed that our we have a long hallway that leads from the foyer to the family room and kitchen.
We have a coat closet on one side and a bare wall on the other side. I have been wanting to do something to that wall for some time now but was never really sure what I wanted to do.
I have been looking at Pinterest for some inspiration. Or, should I say Pinspiration. Here are a few photos that I found that really interest me. I like something in every photo so it's just a matter of pulling it all together and making it look awesome! I put the links under each photo. Let me know what you all think.

Have a wonderful day!
